2016 May be the perfect time for you to buy a home

OK so my crystal ball has broken and I just can’t find a good crystal ball repairman (or repairwoman either). But I do think 2016 may be the perfect time to buy a home. Let’s look at a few things.

First...Some of those so called experts (who seem to have working crystal balls) are saying that prices increases will start to slow down next year.

Next.…More homes are expected to come on the market. The price appreciation we have seen over the past few years will have more sellers. More builders will be getting to work so more new homes will be coming on the market as well.

And then…..Record low interest rates could become a thing of the past. We have all heard the rumor of the Fed raising interest rates. Rates are expected to rise slowly, but higher rates translate to higher mortgage payments….The sooner you buy the better your mortgage rate, translating to lower payments or more house for the dollar.

Lastly….. Rents are expected to rise next year which means in many places buying will be cheaper than renting.

Bellingham Becoming a Brew Pub Haven

Beer is booming in Bellingham.

There are currently 3 brew pubs in Bellingham brewing and serving local popular beers, Boundary Bay Brewery, Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen, and Kulshan Brewing Co. are all popular establishments in the community. The number of Brew Pubs is about to double.

Aslan Brewing Co., which is preparing to open at 1330 N. Forest St. very soon, they are shooting for the end of April, or early May, at the latest.

Wander Brewing, at 1807 Dean Ave., on the west edge of downtown Bellingham, has set the first weekend of May as their opening date.

Stones Throw Brewery has recently applied for licensing from the Washington State Liquor Control Board to start a microbrewery at 1009 Larrabee Ave., in Fairhaven.

Beer’s growing popularity and Bellingham’s buy local attitude, along with the cooperative nature of Bellingham’s competing brewers. They sponsor local events and help each other out. Some are also brewing root beer for the underage crowd and serving food, or having food truck on the premises and having live music

Wander Brewing plans to have an 80-seat tasting area between Dean and Cornwall avenues, with a rotating selection of 10 beers on tap, and a root beer and cider. They plan to have outdoor seating space with space for a food truck similar to Kulshan Brewery. They will be capable of producing 2,000 barrels of beer a year. One barrel being equal to 31 U.S. gallons or 248 pints.

Aslan Brewing Co. first establishing a test brewery in a garage behind the Upfront Theater on Bay Street. At their new downtown location on Forest Street home, they are looking at producing 2,800 barrels of beer annually. They will also offer wine, homemade soda and food, a tasting room, an upstairs area that can be rented out for private parties, and an outdoor seating area. They hope to have their products certified organic by the USDA in time for their grand opening.

Kulshan Brewing Co., which opened it’s door in April 2012 at 2238 James St., has since expanded its capacity twice.

Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen, has added five 20-barrel fermentation tanks in 2012, after maxing out its capacity the previous year.

Boundary Bay Brewery, the first of our microbrewery’s opened in 1995, and has added three 60-barrel fermentation tanks inside a 4,000-square-foot space next door to its home at 1107 Railroad Ave. They are estimating the company’s new production somewhere around 10,000 barrels a year.
