Is the time right for a ferry service between Blaine Harbour, Semiahmoo and Point Roberts? Joel Douglas thinks it is, and he hopes to sell enough advanced tickets to prove the feasibility of the idea. How to work it out though, Douglas wants free morage and landing facilities. The port would want him to have his own dock and pay for it. An interesting concept, can all be worked out? We’ll see.

After reading Saturday’s Bellingham Herald article on the local real estate market, I decided to do a bit more investigating, and found some interesting statistics contrary to theirs. They contend that the average of a price higher end home over $500,000 rose while the sale price of the market below $500,000 went down.
According to Northwest Multiple Listing service statistics that is not true for Bellingham as homes uner $500,000 average price for 2006 was $303,470 compared to 2005 at $291,843 for a 4% increase.
The upper end over $500,000: 2006 average sales price of $726,667 compared to 2005 at $675,251 for a 7.6% increase.
In Whatcom County homes that sold under $500,000 average price for 2006 was $279,642 compared to 2005 at $269,913 for a 3.6% increase.
The upper end over $500,000: 2006 average sales price of $723,694 compared to 2005 at $676,779 for a 6.9% increase.
Statistics aren’t they great. there are lots of ways to present them.

The average price of a condo sold in Bellingham in 2006 was $226,481 for a 11% increase over last year. 491 condos sold on average in 132 days.
The average price of a home sold in Whatcom County in 2006 was $329,438 for a 9% increase over last year. 2784 homes sold on average in 74 days.
The average price of a condo sold in Whatcom County in 2006 was $223,026 for a 16% increase over last year. 670 condos sold on average in 123 days.
