The Samish Neighborhood
The Samish Neighborhood is in the south-east corner of the city of Bellingham. it’s a hilly area which makes for some spectacular views. There is a mix of old and new homes in the Samish neighborhood. The neighborhood is home to Lake Padden, the third largest lake in Whatcom County along. It is also home to Lake Padden Park and Lake Padden Golf Course. There is a 2.6 mile trail that circles the lake that is used by walkers, runners, and bicyclists. You can also enjoy fishing, human-powered boating, swimming, picnics, barbecues, tennis, playgrounds and softball fields in a beautiful wooded northwest setting.
The neighborhood has a wide variety of homes from small starter homes, to brand new homes with sweeping views. The Ridgemont community is one of the older subdivisions in Samish, mostly homes built in the 1970’s & 1980’s. Above Ridgemont there are several new developments in various stages of construction. They include Wildwood and Samish Highlands that have fantastic views of Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands and the Canadian Mountains and Gulf Islands to north. Parkhurst and Padden hills are also great communities in this neighborhood. The Samish Neighborhood schools are Happy Valley Elementary School, Fairhaven Middle School, with the exception to some kids in the north east area of the Samish Neighborhood attending Kulshan Middle School, and Squalicum High School.
