Mt Baker Neighborhood
The Mt Baker neighborhood is one of the fastest growing residential areas of Bellingham. With its awesome views of Bellingham Bay & the San Juan Islands from the hills of the Barkley area, there is lots of development there.
The Mt. Baker neighborhood is home to many single and multi-family residential areas on both it’s eastern and western sides, and commercial development at it’s south.. Over 600 acres of industrial land was added to the neighborhood in 1998 with the annexation of the “Hannegan/Bakerview” industrial area. It also includes Sunset Square & Barkley Village a planned “urban growth” area that has the potential and room for lots more growth. Barkley Village has the feel of a small town “downtown” area.
The James Street Estates, a mobile home park, behind Sunset Square next to Sunset Pond, is famous for its annual Christmas lights show tthe residents there put on.
Bellingham’s two newest schools are in this neighborhood, Squalicum High School and Northern Heights Elementary School.
North Ridge Park is 50 acres near the top of Barkley Hill, and there are trails leading from there to Whatcom Falls Park and Lake Whatcom.
