Bellingham Technical College’s Welding Technology Program is hosting the 13th Annual Welding Rodeo Sculpture Competition on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, 2014.
The theme for this year’s event is “The 4 Elements, earth, air, fire, water”.
It’s an industry trade show as well as a competition, it’s a fundraiser, it’s a community event.
Each of the 20, 4 member teams has 8 hours to build a sculpture from scrap material,
Judges will look at safety and durability, public decency and values, artistic quality and workmanship. Prizes include welding equipment like cutting torches and plasma cutters.
Get out to the BTC campus to see welding and art in action up close and personal. You can even bid on one of the sculptures. All sculptures will be available at a public auction, with the proceeds benefiting the BTC Welding Student Scholarship Fund, the Welding Rodeo, and participating artists. Silent auction for amateur sculptures closes at 5 p.m. Friday. Live auction for professional sculptures starts at 5:15 p.m. Saturday
Friday we will showcase 10 Amateur or High School/College level teams, and Saturday we will showcase 10 Professional level teams competing for prizes and cash.
