Moon of the Mushroom at the Stimpson Family Nature Reserve
Saturday, October 23, 5:00-7:00 PM
Whatcom County is a great place for fungus. We’ve all encountered mold, mildew and mushrooms. The diversity of the form is amazing, yet function remains the same. Mushrooms do an amazing job of turning dead trees into dirt. Find out how and why they accomplish this important task in a local Mecca for mushrooms. Special guest: Erin Moore, mushroomer extraordinaire!
Walk When the Moon is Full is located at a different park or wild area every month, near the full moon to explore nature, night, and the month’s topic. This program is specially designed for adults and families with children over the age of five.
Expect introductions, a gathering game or activity, a short natural history lesson, a short walk, wildlife observation, a solo experience, and a sharing circle. The solo experience involves 10-20 minutes of solitude in nature, while you use our senses to observe the activities and stillness of nightfall.
