Fairhaven and South Hill neighborhood proposals to limit new building heights and bulks will be considered by the Bellingham planning department. A big step forward for the people of these neighborhoods.
Those two neighborhood associations have applied to the city to create height and bulk limits, they want to preserve neighborhood character and views of Bellingham Bay from the street and already existing buildings.
In Fairhaven, residents are asking for a 45 feet height limit in the core area and 35 feet in areas surrounding the core. The move was in response to a developer’s proposal to build the 10- story Fairhaven Harbor development, which neighbors feel is out of character there.
Neighbors will get to hold a public hearing on the issue, followed by public hearings from the Planning Commission and City Council.
It sure will be interesting to see what becomes of this issue.
