Get to the beach just north of CJ’s Beach House at noon Sunday, June 13. The folks who show up will form the name “Birch Bay” on the beach and a picture will be taken from the air by photographer Lyle Jansma .
The photo that results will be made into postcards, posters and glossy pictures. Proceeds from sales will benefit the Birch Bay Food Pantry and Horizon Park project.
Another early event taking place Sunday in Blaine is the 87th annual Hands Across the Border Celebration at Peace Arch Park, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. U.S. and Canadian youth groups will gather to celebrate the close ties between the two countries. A parade of flags from across the globe will be carried through the arch, accompanied by Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and veterans. This is the 87th year for the event.
The Peace Arch Border Crossing will be closed during the event.
