This weekend it is time for the annual Scottish Highland Games at Hovander Homestead park in Ferndale. This is their 50th year in Whatcom County.
This years events includes competition in piping, drumming, dancing, and athletics such as the caber toss where men in kilts toss huge wooden poles as far as they can, the sheaf toss, in which a pitchfork is used to hurl a 20-pound bale of hay over a high bar; and throwing the Scottish hammer, a 16-pound steel ball at the end of a cane handle.
There will also be presenting Clan information, Fiddle & Harp performances, Scottish Country Dancing and more.
If you want to spend the weekend their is field camping available as well as delicious Scottish foods and loads of vendor booths.
