Day 49- Go to the Whatcom pavilion at WCC and watch a professional Basketball game. No it’s not the NBA but The Bellingham Slam of the IBL(International Basketball League)

They are playing tonight 7pm vs. the BC Titans at Whatcom Pavilion! Tonight is baby food drive nightâ€¦ Swing by the store on your way to the game to pick up a few jars, they only cost around 60¢ yet you’ll save $1 off your ticket for each one you donate (up to $4 off), plus you’ll be helping a worthy cause!

In the summer of 2005 the Bellingham Slam brought pro hoops back to Bellingham in the form of an American Basketball Association franchise. The 2005-06 season, in which the Slam finished with a 20-15 record, and saw basketball icons Dennis Rodman and Tim Hardaway visit the Slam’s home court of Whatcom Pavilion as members of visiting teams.

After two successful seasons in the ABA, the Slam announced in the summer of 2007 that the team would be changing its league affiliation. The Slam now competes in the International Basketball League, a similar minor professional league to the ABA, but whose playing seasons falls in the springtime, from April to July. The move to the IBL has allowed the Slam to develop regional rivalries as there are a number of nearby teams in the Pacific Northwest.

Day 17 – 365 Things to do in Bellingham, WA – The Community Food Coop

The Community Food Coop has been Bellingham’s natural cooperative grocer since 1970. The first store opened in Fairhaven as a 900-square-foot store with few items and has grown to a two-store 12,000-member-strong natural grocer. It is a member owned cooperative but you don’t have to be a member to shop there.

They have a large selection of organic produce, meat and seafood, wine, a great deli, an espresso bar, bulk items, natural and organic grocery items, baked goods, dairy, and supplements and wellness products. They have a great cafe with freshly made salads available every day.

Part of the Co-op’s mission is to serve our community. They offer a wide variety of classes, including cooking, health and well-being, and other fun stuff, such as soap making or bird-watching sponsor events,

The Co-op sponsors several events throughout the year, including musicians, art exhibits, and athletic events. They offer donations like giving a percentage of the day’s sales to 12 organizations chosen as Community Shopping Day recipients and they support local farms.
