Bellingham’s Barkley Village has had some of the best commercial growth in the best 5 years .
They have had Drake Building, a five-story, 50,000-square-foot residential and commercial complex completed in October 2007. The Laurel Building, finished in 2008, and home to Scotty Brown’s, the Regal Cinemas Barkley Village Stadium 16 movie theater, which held its grand opening last December and a few other office buildings.
And now Barlkey will be adding some more resisences as well as commercial space.
Barkley Co.has recently filed an application to build a new mixed-use building in one of the districts empty lots along Barkley Boulevard.The new Cornerstone Building, is set to have two parking levels, 10,000 square feet of retail and office space, as well as four stories of apartment units. If all goes well construction should begin in May, and be completed by April 2014.
The theater complex also continues to grow withe the addition of three separate tenant buildings meant for food-service businesses.
The Woods Coffee has already opened a near the entrance to the theater. A restaurant called Zen Sushi is will open soon in a building on the south end of the site.
Permits have been filed for a Subway restaurant and a frozen yogurt business as well.
Residential focus
New residents in the district should find a good base of amenities within walking distance of the urban Village. And residential development will be a regular component of future construction in Barkley.
A financial heart
Barkley Village has developed into the city’s financial center over the past decade. Looks like the next decade will bring more places for people to live and live up the village.
